Sleep disorders like re

st

less legs syndrome (RLS) are common in hemo-

dialysis (HD) patients and associated with reduced quality of life in them. In this

st

udy,

we evaluated the frequency of RLS in HD patients for diagnosis and control the signs of

RLS to increase the quality of life in them.

Materials/Methods

: The Society who had

been

st

udied was 118 Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) patients who were under dialysis

treatment in dialysis units of the we

st

of Mazandaran. Regi

st

er of information was done

by a que

st

ionnaire that completed with interview and laboratory measurements. The

data recorded and analyzed by the Chi-Square te

st

.

Results

: In this

st

udy, 118 HD pa-

tients were evaluated. 16.1% of patients a

ff

ected by RLS. Mo

st

patients (65.61%) were

more than 60 years old. There was no correlation between sex and age with RLS. There

was no correlation between laboratory

fi

ndings including hemoglobin, Calcium, Ferri-

tin, and creatinine with su

ff

ering by RLS. There was a correlation between blood urea

nitrogen (BUN) and su

ff

ering from RLS. There was no correlation between body mass

index(BMI), family hi

st

ory, the cause of CRF, the period of CRF diagnosis, the period

of dependency to dialysis, weekly frequency of dialysis, ferritin, and Erythropoietin

(EPO) intake, drug hi

st

ory of patients and su

ff

ering by RLS.

Conclusion

: According

to this

st

udy, we found that RLS is a common problem in HD patients and there is no

correlation between a

ff

ected by RLS and laboratory

fi

ndings except BUN.
